Level 5

Level 5 continues to develop and review what was learned in Levels 0 - 4. Read scales and chords rhythmically; fast major chords in chromatic order; fast compound time; transpose lead line in steps and modulate. Recognize signs for repeating: endings, signs with fine, coda, and short cuts; more dotted rhythm and counting; British terms for note values; simple and compound time signatures; compound intervals; build dominant 7 chords; parallel and relative major and minor scales and key signatures. Technically rotate tremolo high and low; tremolo continuously; trill rotating and finger trill; transpose open position arpeggios; drill fast inverted triads; express frantic and restful dynamics; balance touch; play tonic and dominant progressions in all major and minor keys; long scales hands together in four octaves; and articulate staccato by forearm drop, wrist staccato, finger staccato, staccatissimo, portato, and fast repetitions. The pieces played in Level 5 consist of traditional songs and arrangements of classic melodies from operas, symphonies, and master piano works; along with classic duets, and original intermediate pedagogical pieces.
